One of Aspire Gallery’s founding goals has always been to draw attention to collectable, unattainable art just before it booms. We have promoted, pushed and guided hundreds of these artists since opening in 2014. Our commitment to this ethos continues this year with our 11 round, round robin art competition - “Unveiled”.

LET THEM EAT CAKE - SHAC MEMBERS GROUP EXHIBITION - Cakes have appeared in the picnic paintings of the impressionists, the tablescapes of Bonnard and in the celebrated paintings of American artist Wayne Thiebaud. Works can be in any medium and may address the political implications of the quote, the misogynistic implications of the misattribution, reflect the current interest in the genre of still-life or merely revel in the joys of a beautiful cake. I’ve painted a series of Sweet Tooth Tondos because ‘Happiness is only a cupcake away!’

We are also looking to share all the exciting developments in our fair city with potential visitors and residents as well as put a spotlight on the magic that is Toowoomba in Autumn. THE CORNER STORE GALLERY - INSIDE THE BOX ART PRIZE - Artists were invited to submit work of any medium or subject matter with measurements that fit within 30x30cm (this includes framing and must not exceed these dimensions). Submitted work could be square or rectangular, or any other shape for that matter, as long as it fits inside a 30x30cm box. Artists could submit only 1 artwork each. There was a maximum retail price of $1000. WALL WORKS ONLY, Sculpture, ceramics and 3-dimensional work will not be accepted. The exhibition included the most exciting and original artworks submitted for selection from artists and designers from all over Australia. I was so proud to be selected!
