COMMISSIONS

I love collaborating with a collector to create bespoke creations, resonating with both my style and yours.

Thank you so much for your interest in my artwork.

When I accept a commission, I am aiming for a rich collaborative experience, where we are both happy with the process and the outcome.

I price my work using a formula that factors in the dimensions of the work, materials cost, and the labour-intensity. There is a 10 per cent commissioning fee added to the price of the artwork, this helps to cover the additional conversations and sharing we will have to create your unique artwork.

After an initial conversation and you agree that you would like to go ahead with a Commission, a fee of 30 per cent of the price is payable to begin. Should a client refuse the finished artwork, the concept and materials fee is retained to cover some of my initial costs.

How do we start?

We begin with a conversation about what it is that you are looking for.

We agree on a size, theme, price, timeline, and deadline. I can help you work out the best size and proportion to suit your space.

Calculating the price -

Depending on the style of work, I calculate the cost based on the width multiplied by the length, adding the cost of materials (canvas or board plus frame), including national shipping.

Negotiating our timeline -

This will depend on the size and complexity of the piece and my availability. I’ll provide you with some key dates, including a start date, and some milestone sharing dates and an anticipated sign off date, then a anticipated courier pick up date. If you live in Sydney, you are welcome to pick up from my Marrickville address.

Establishing the artwork idea and image -

Most collectors who come to me for a commission, do so after having seen an artwork of mine that they love. It is often the case that the painting is no longer available, or exists, but needs a little tweak, perhaps a colour variation or perhaps different proportions. Or sometimes, they would like me to paint from a series of references. From that conversation, I’ll try and ascertain from you, what are the key elements of the painting/references that you particularly love, and if there are any other important elements or ideas that you would like me to try and include. From there, I’ll make a sketch collage using Photoshop.

Settling on a Colour Scheme -

We will establish a colour scheme and tone together. Nevertheless, sometimes colour tweaks are needed to make a better image as the work is developing on the canvas - these should not affect the main colour scheme of the work. However, to do my best work, I do make changes as I go, for example - an element I initially planned to fade away looks too strong or vice versa - I will make similar changes in the moment.

I’ll share some progress images -

I will share some progress images with you, and I’ll try and do that when the artwork is at a ‘readable’ stage, it can be confusing showing too many images, and especially images that have undeveloped areas. I always aim to do my best work, and I’ll need to make certain creative decisions in the moment.

Revisions

Small changes may be accommodated by negotiation; however, some suggestions may put the work at risk, etc., and we would talk that through to work out the best way forward.

I hope we can work together to create something beautiful.
