Autumn Studio News
After an incredible yet slightly slower-paced Summer filled with cherished moments with family and friends, as well as indulging in some art time, I am eagerly anticipating what 2024 has in store! But first, let me bring you up to speed on a few things. This year, I've made the decision to forgo solo exhibitions, opting instead for a more balanced approach that allows me ample time to explore and reflect on my artistic journey.
I'll be participating in group shows and submitting works to art prizes, which I've already begun. January and February have been fulfilling months, with my pieces selected for both the "Inside the Box Art Prize" at the Corner Store Gallery in Orange and as a finalist in the "Next Big Thing Art Prize" at The Toowoomba Gallery in Queensland. I have a deep appreciation for both of these galleries and the remarkable women who lead them, and in the spirit of strong women - Happy International Women’s Day!
Additionally, I had the pleasure of showcasing my work in the Member's Summer Group Show at the SHAC Gallery in Robertson and the Summer Exhibition at The Milk Factory Gallery in Bowral. Excitingly, The Milk Factory Gallery has invited me to contribute more paintings for their permanent exhibitions throughout the year!
So, that's the fantastic news from the past two months - now let me share what's on the horizon!
MY‘BUDGIE BEAUTIES’ COLLECTION is now LIVE!
Over the past two months, I've been deeply immersed in memories of my own grandmother, lovingly known as Nana. Being a grandmother myself, I often ponder what my grandchildren will hold dear about me in the years to come. Recollections of a remarkable woman who revelled in nature's beauty and held a special fondness for birds, particularly budgies. Her backyard sanctuary housed a multitude of these colourful creatures, creating a magical spectacle, especially through the eyes of a five-year-old like me. Inspired by her spirit, I've crafted a series of pieces as a tribute to her memory. These charming budgies, portrayed in vintage colour schemes, hold a piece of her essence. Among them, ‘Ziggy’ the budgie has garnered attention, earning a place in the prestigious INSIDE THE BOX ART PRIZE, available now through the Corner Store Gallery. See the Full Collection here!
SAVE THE DATE for ‘Let Them Eat Cake’!
@the SHAC in July
I'm thrilled to share that I've been invited to participate in the SHAC Gallery's Let them Eat Cake Exhibition, opening on 11 July in Robertson, this event includes a themed and glamorous afternoon tea. I've found inspiration in painting cupcake tondos with a unique twist. Please SAVE THE DATE and I sincerely hope you'll be able to attend; I'll ensure you receive an invitation closer to opening.
The Group Show titled "Let Them Eat Cake," delves into the rich history and interpretations surrounding the phrase. Cakes have long held significance in art, appearing in the picnic scenes of the impressionists, the tablescapes of Bonnard, and the celebrated works of American artist Wayne Thiebaud. Artworks featured in the exhibition can span any medium and may explore various themes, such as the political connotations of the quote, the misogynistic implications of its misattribution, reflections on the contemporary interest in still-life genres, or simply revelling in the pure joy of depicting a beautiful cake. The exhibition will be on until 8 September, I do hope you’ll increase your sugar levels by coming along.

A final indulgence…
I just wanted to finally share that I had never heard of Waiheke Islandnear Auckland in New Zealand, until my sister in law invited my whole family to Waiheke, to celebrate her significant birthday. I think it could be the most beautiful place in the world, so if you haven’t been, pop it on to your bucket list, and if you do go, go straight to Mudbrick Winery and raise a glass to how lucky we are to enjoy the wonder and beauty of nature and a little fine wine!
May Autumn's beauty inspire warmth and togetherness in your days. Here's to a season brimming with delightful moments and cherished memories with loved ones.
